OGUN NUJ PAYS TRIBUTE TO LATE OBA OGUNLEYE

The Ogun State Council of the Nigeria Union of Journalists (NUJ) on Thursday expressed sadness over the sudden passage of a veteran journalist and Ogun monarch, the Towulade of Akin'ale, Oba Dr. Olufemi Ogunleye.

In a statement issued by the Ogun Council through the State Secretary, Comrade Bunmi Adigun and signed by the Chairman, Comrade 'Wale Olanrewaju, the Union described Oba Ogunleye's demise as a shocking and devastating loss.

 It stressed that despite his advanced age, his sudden passage remains a significant loss as his wisdom and expertise had been a source of inspiration to the Ogun NUJ Executive and the Council.

Oba Ogunleye played a significant role in quenching the political turbulence that ravaged the Council for over four years.

 According to the release, he harnessed his statesmanlike wisdom, professional acumen and diplomatic finesse to resolve conflicts, reconcile factions, and in company of other progressives, ensured successful conduct of elections to usher in new leaders; thereby setting the Council on a path of growth and progress.

Until his glorious exit, he was chairman of the Ogun NUJ Advisory Council and a prominent member of the league of veteran journalists whose wise counsel and journalistic savvy will be deeply missed.

Oba Ogunleye had a distinguished career in journalism, serving as a correspondent for the Daily Times from 1974 to 1976 before transitioning into public relations. His contributions to the field of journalism and his commitment to the NUJ will always be remembered. 

The Ogun NUJ offers its heartfelt condolences to the family, particularly his son, Bamidele Ogunleye, a journalist with OGBC. 

The Council prayed that the Almighty God would grant the family the strength to bear this loss and let Oba Ogunleye's soul rest in eternal peace.
