Dr Toyin Madein Becomes Nigeria's First Female Accountant-General of the Federation

...As Buhari approved her appointment out of 20 shortlisted across the country.

Iperu Remo born seasoned accountant and financial management expert, Dr Oluwatoyin Sakirat Madein, has been appointed as the substantive Accountant-General of the Federation (AGF) on Thursday by President Muhammadu Buhari .

This was disclosed in a statement, dated May 19, 2023, which was signed by the Director, Communications, Office of the Head of Civil Service of the Federation, Mohammed Abdullahi Ahmed, on Friday, in Abuja.

Successful People Magazine gathered that the Head of the Civil Service of the Federation, Dr Folasade Yemi-Esan, stated that the appointment took effect from Thursday, May 18, 2023.

Madein was born on March 7, 1965  in Iperu Remo, Ikenne Local Government Area of Ogun State, the home town of the State Governor, Prince Dapo Abiodun; although her appointment was purely on merit.

 Until her appointment, she was the Director of Finance and Accounts in the Office of the Head of the Civil Service of the Federation.

A holder of PhD in Management Finance from Walden University, USA, is a Fellow of the Institute of Certified Chartered Accountants(FCCA).

She studied Accountancy at the then Ogun State Polytechnic, now Moshood Abiola Political, Abeokuta, where she bagged Higher National Diploma (HND).

She thereafter studied Business Administration and bagged master's degree from the then Ogun State University (OSU), now Olabisi Onabanjo University (OOU), Ago Iwoye.

She has held many senior management positions before her current appointment; the last being, 

  She was among the 20 directors drawn from different ministries, departments and agencies of the Federal Government, which the nation’s anti-graft agencies cleared to take part in the process leading to the filling of the vacancy.

 According to The Punch newspapers report, "the vacancy followed the arrest of former AGF, Ahmed Idris, in July 2022, by the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission over the alleged misappropriation of N109bn and his subsequent suspension and prosecution".

Those 20 shortlisted candidates that took part in the process are Danladi Comfort, Gombe (Interior); Mohammed Yar’Abba, Sokoto (Fire Service); Mufutau Bukola, Oyo (Transportation); Mahmud Kambari, Borno (North East Development Commission); Mohammed Dojo, Gombe (Interior); and Waziri Samuel, Borno (Agriculture and Rural Development).

Others shortlisted are Maiden Sakirat, Ogun (OHCSF); Adaramoye Oluwole, Ekiti (Humanitarian Affairs); Isa Abubakar, Yobe (Science, Technology and Innovation); Ogunsemowo Olakunle, Ogun (Environment); Egbokhale Charity, Edo (NFF); Ibrahim Jibo, Kano (National Boundary Commission); Ogbodo Nnam, Enugu (National Salaries, Income and Wages Commission); and Bakare Juliannah, Ekiti (NPF).

With her appointment, she became the first female to occupy the office of the Accountant General of the Federation in Nigeria.
