Ekiti monarch, Alawe congratulates Captain Kunle Olaiwola on his emergence as first African Chartered Master Mariner

 Ekiti monarch, the Alawe of Ilawe Ekiti, His Royal Majesty, Oba Adebanji Ajibade Alabi, AFUNTADE 1, has congratulated Captain Kunle Olaiwola, on his great achievement, for becoming the first African Chartered Master Mariner . 

In a release issued and signed by the Media Adviser to the Alawe, High Chief Ajibade Olubunmi on Monday, Oba Alabi described Olaiwola as a worthy son of Ilawe Ekiti, when he received information that an Ilawe Ekiti indigene has become the first African Chartered Master Mariner.


Captain Olaiwola, a Nautical Surveyor at the Nigerian Maritime Administration and Safety Agency (NIMASA) was selected as a fellowship of the Nautical Institute, United Kingdom at the institute’s December 2021 Annual General Meeting (AGM) conference in London; a great achievement in the maritime horizon of the world.


The Alawe, in his congratulatory message, noted with joy that Olaiwola has now become one of the 58 Chartered Master Mariners in the whole world; a feat he described as phenomenal.


He added that his achievement has further lifted the image of Ilawe on the global map.


The Alawe remarked that Laiwola's success did not come as a surprise to him judging from his family background and his personal antecedents.

  He stated further that the Nautical Surveyor exhibited good leadership acumen during the ceremonies marking the Alawe's 10th Coronation anniversary when he served as the Chairman of the Coronation Anniversary Planning Committee


   "Iam proud of you, the entire people of Ilawe love you and we pray that God will continue to guide your footsteps in your Chosen profession", Oba Alabi said in the message. 


   The Alawe also congratulated the Mariner's immediate family, the entire Ilawe people and Ekiti State for the landmark achievement.

          

 Suffice to add that Captain Olaiwola has worked in various organisations in UAE, Singapore, Malaysia, Nigeria, Angola and the UK.


He experienced sailing across Asia, Africa, Micronesia, South America, Baltic, Bay Bengaland Europe ocean/seas and ports.

He also attended Lloyds Maritime Academy London where he obtained certificate in Marine Pollution Management, Port/ Flag State Surveyor Certificates and Nautical Examiner Certificate.


This Nautical Surveyor also obtained PGD in international Maritime Law and LLM in International Maritime Law at different occasions at World Maritime University, Malmo, Sweden.


 An alumnus of Kofi Anna Peace Keeping Institute, Accra Ghana, Olaiwola loves reading, researching, playing football and table tennis; in addtion to socializing.
