HIS BRIEF ROLES AS ACTING CHAIRMAN, REMO COUNCIL OF TRADITIONAL RULERS IN 2016/2017

Following the demise of the then Akarigbo and Paramount Ruler of Remoland, Late Oba Michael Adeniyi Sonariwo, in August 2016, there were two vacua created, and the need to fill the vacant positions became imperative.

While the Lisa of Offin, Sagamu, who was the next in rank to Akarigbo, within the Akarigbo-In-Council hierachy, could fill the vacuum, as Acting Head of the Akarigbo Regency within Offin Townlet, he had no royal a nd legal authority to perform the roles of Akarigbo as the Acting Chairman of Remo Council of Traditional Rulers because he is an Offin high chief, a Leader of the king makers, but not an Oba(King).

Since Lisa's chieftaincy jurisdiction and influence therefore can't be extended beyond Offin section of Sagamu, not to mention the entire Remoland, the Obas in Remo, having looked at Oba Osiberu's pedigree and the leadership skills he displayed shortly after the Oba Sonariwo was pronounced dead, unanimously appointed him to be the Acting Chairman of Remo Council of Traditional Rulers .

Elepe had mobilised other Obas in Remo, shortly after the death of Oba Sonariwo was confirmed by the Akarigbo-in-Council, to ensure that Remo division of Ogun State did not suffer leadership crisis or absence, bearing in mind that the Vice President of Nigeria is even from Remo. The reason for such emergency meeting and mobilisation was because he realised, as a SYSTEMS ANALYST that no one could predict how soon or long the emergence of another Akarigbo would be, and the vacuum created must quickly be filled.

Alas! That his bold moves and initiative won the hearts of other Obas, who expressed their confidence in him, and asked him to continue.

Consequently, he filled the vacuum created and represented Remo division effectively at the Ogun State Council of Obas, as a first class Oba and permanent member of the Council.

While occupying that position, he ensured the fracas that broke out in 1988 after the death of the then Akarigbo, Oba Moses Sowemimo Awolesi(Erinwole ii) over the invasion of Awolowo Market by youths from Offin, didn't repeat itself.

He coordinated the activities of Obas in Remo effectively and related well with all other Obas in Ogun State. He ensured that there was peace in Sagamu and Remo. He didn't engage in any royal politics that could lead to crisis in the selection process of getting a new Akarigbo to prolong his own stay. Instead, he provided condusive atmosphere and  related well with all the parties concerned, thereby ensuring that the transition process of getting a new Akarigbo by the Ruling House, whose turn it was to produce the next Akarigbo and the Akarigbo Kingmakers was smooth and successful.

Barely a year after the passage of the late Oba Sonariwo, Remo got another Akarigbo-elect. And the new Oba was installed on December 7, 2017, just as he (Elepe) vacated the seat of the Acting Chairman at the appropriate time.

DISTINGUISHED ROYAL ICON AWARD

In celebrating his 15th Year on the throne in June 2017, the President of Sagamu Youth  Congress, Comrade Kayode Segun-Okeowo described the Elepe and the the Acting Chairman of Remo Council of Traditional Rulers, as "a progressive royal father who has deployed his fifteen years of reign to fast track the progress and development of Epe Community and Remo land as a whole".

While honouring him with Distinguished Royal Icon Award, the youths president further described him as a highly intelligent traditional ruler who combined native intelligence with modern wisdom to ensure that everybody under his care was well taken care of within the available resources.
