Steps To Greatness: Changing From Meaningless Life To Meaningful Life Through Constant Improvement.
By Charles Segun Adegbite
No matter who you are, where you are and what you have accomplished in life, you have to keep on learning new things daily in this fast changing world, if you don't want to be pushed aside, become an outdated and irrelevant person; you have to keep on improving constantly.
A renown legal icon, Aare Afe Babalola started his Afe Babalola University, Ado-Ekiti(ABUAD) when he was about 80years old. What he accomplished through that university within five years, including his personal teaching of Law and training of lawyers in that university, after over 50years of practicing Law, were some of the things that fetched him Doctor of Laws, LLD (Honoris Causa) of the University of London about five years after starting the university .
He became the first African to be so honoured by the great University of London. This is a man who did not attend secondary school, but through constant self improvement and commitment to learning, studied privately and got school certificate, enrolled as an external student and bagged two bachelor degrees in Economics and Law from the University of London.
He became a lawyer and continued to improve until he attained the status of Senior Advocate of Nigeria(S.A.N) and never stopped learning.
Transforming a meaningless life to a meaningful one and changing from a worthless person to a worthy and great man or woman, require constant improvement.
By constantly improving, a man or woman can move out of stagnation to stardom. One can walk out of poverty to prosperity. One can leave the club of poor people to join the successful people.
Through constant and never end improvement an ordinary person can become a great person.
If Afe Babalola can set up a university at the age of 80years, and began to train many younger generation of leaders, when many of his colleagues and age mates have retired, and in the course of doing little or nothing, have become tired and died.
That means, you too can still set up new goals and continue to be relevant, even in your old age, until God says time up for you to leave the stage.
