Prince Isiaka mourns Gen. Olurin, says: "We lost an icon"

The death of  Gen. Adetunji Idowu Olurin(Rtd), has been described as a huge loss to Yewaland and Ogun State by a serial governorship candidate, Prince Gboyega Nasir Isiaka, a.k.a GNI.

 

Olurin, who died in the morning on Saturday at age 76 was a retired one-star general in the Nigeria Army, 

and a  former Field Commander of ECOMOG  Peacekeeping Force in Liberia (1992 to 1993) during the First Liberian Civil War.

He was at different times the military governor of Oyo State and sole administrator of Ekiti State, before joining politics after leaving Ekiti State.

In a condolence message sent to Successful People Magazine yesternight, Prince Isiaka, who in 2011 had a tough civil contest with Olurin as parallel governorship candidates of the People's Democratic Party (PDP) in Ogun State, described him as an icon of Yewaland.

In the message, Isiaka said, "It is with huge sense of loss and yet, gratitude to the supreme will of God, that I received the news of the death of a Statesman, illustrious son of Ogun State and Icon of Yewaland, General Adetunji  Idowu Olurin (Rtd).

"General's life was that of service to humanity. He was a consummate military officer whose intervention in crucial national assignments, left indelible landmarks." He added.

GNI described the late septuagenarian soldier as

"a seasoned administrator who did creditably well when called to serve as a Military Governor and later in life as Sole Administrator". 

In the message, Isiaka expressed sadness that Ogun West have just been deprived of one of it's illustrious and mortal icon; "coming at a season when his fatherly advice would be needed in navigating a new national democratic order that is so needed at this time", he explained.

He, however, thanked God for his life and noted that they would surely miss him and all that he represented for the larger part of his 76 eventful years on earth.

Prince Isiaka then prayed that the Almighty God should  forgive his sins, grant him eternal tranquility and give the Olurin family and all loved ones the strength to bear the huge loss.
