This is to minimize the health and economic effects of the "COVID-19 on the nation and prevent asylum seekers from competing for jobs with American citizens in USA.
In a tweet at 3:06 AM, Apr 21, 2020, Trump said, "In light of the attack from the Invisible Enemy, as well as the need to protect the jobs of our GREAT American Citizens, I will be signing an Executive Order to temporarily suspend immigration into the United States!"
As at 12:25AM EST, confirmed cases of Covid-19 in the US, was 787,201 and death toll was 42,333, according to John Hopkins University
The mechanism he intended to use to suspend immigration to the country, how long the suspension could last or what effect this will have on the operation of US border crossings and on those who already hold green cards, are not mentioned in the tweet.
However, under such an executive order, the Trump administration would no longer approve any applications from foreigners to live and work in the United States while the suspension lasted.
